USDA Renews Five Year Rural Water Assistance Contract

NRWA experts will continue providing technical and managerial support to small water systems across the United States.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded a five-year contract to the National Rural Water Association to continue the Circuit Rider Technical Assistance Program.

The program, managed through USDA’s Rural Utilities Service, provides technical assistance to small and remote water systems. Circuit riders help local officials and utility staff with operational, financial and managerial issues related to rural water infrastructure.

“The renewal of the Circuit Rider contract is an achievement that speaks to the strong partnership between NRWA and USDA,” said Michele Brooks, assistant administrator for the USDA Rural Utilities Service.

The program operates in all 50 states and Puerto Rico and helps small systems with regulatory compliance, water treatment, loan applications and reporting requirements.

The NRWA is a nonprofit organization that trains and supports water and wastewater professionals in rural communities.

USDA’s Rural Utilities Service provides funding each year for water and waste projects in rural areas.
