Earthshot Prize Progress Report Highlights Scalable Solutions for Global Restoration

Five years of data from Earthshot Prize finalists demonstrate measurable gains in ocean protection, land restoration and clean energy deployment.

A five-year progress report released by The Earthshot Prize demonstrates how scalable environmental innovations are driving measurable global impact across ocean protection, clean air and land restoration. Presented at the recent Impact Assembly during London Climate Action Week, the data provides a comprehensive baseline for the growing reach of environmental solutions developed since 2020.

An impact report released at the assembly outlined five years of cumulative achievements by 75 Earthshot finalists. According to the report, supported initiatives have avoided or captured more than 18 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions and protected or restored 58 million hectares of land and 85 million hectares of ocean. Additionally, projects have diverted 465,000 tonnes of waste, recycled 21 million tonnes of water and improved air quality in regions home to 600 million people.

Since its launch in 2020, the organization has awarded £25 million in grant funding across 6,700 total nominations.

Key announcements from the assembly included a $260 million investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies to expand its ocean initiative, supporting global efforts to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030.

Several individual environmental projects detailed major expansions:

• Nature Restoration: Brazilian organization re.green entered a 20-year agreement with Novo Nordisk to restore 500 hectares of the Amazon. Sustainable farming initiative Kheyti secured state government projects in India to support 2,000 farmers, backed by broader national policy support. Belterra received $19.7 million from Brazil’s BNDES Climate Fund to expand land restoration.
• Air Quality: A clean air framework originally developed in Gujarat, India, will expand to Rio de Janeiro in collaboration with the Emissions Market Accelerator at the University of Chicago.
• Renewable Energy: Form Energy announced international expansion plans for its 100-hour grid-scale storage batteries, including deployments in Ireland and target operations in the United Kingdom.
• Marine & Coastal Conservation: The High Ambition Coalition for Nature & People initiated a second funding round for Marine Protected Areas following the creation of Ghana’s first designated zone. Coast 4C raised $2.5 million in seed funding for regenerative seaweed farming in Southeast Asia, while Friendship partnered with Conservation International on a $10 million project to restore 118 kilometers of mangrove forest in Bangladesh.
• Waste Reduction: Sustainable dye producer Colorifix partnered with Parley for the Oceans on a commercial apparel line, while Lagos Fashion Week launched a regenerative fashion framework for Africa.

The event also marked the global expansion of the youth-focused I CAN Earthshot Challenge into India, aiming to engage up to one million students across 15,000 schools.
