Richard E. Grant recently admitted to being over the moon after becoming a grandfather.
For those unaware, the 69-year-old Swazi-English actor and presenter has one biological child, a daughter named Olivia Grant, whom he welcomed with his late wife, Joan Washington. However, he is also the stepfather to Tom Washington, as Joan welcomed him during his previous relationship.
Grant’s daughter Olivia gave birth to a baby boy in June of this year and sharing his feelings about the new addition to his family, he recently stated that it is an “incredible” joy in a talk with The Sunday Times Style Magazine.
He explained, “What everybody will tell you about becoming a grandparent is that the parents do all the nappy changing, feeding, they do all that. I’m spared having to be up all night, which I would love. I’m just handed the baby. I get the best of it.”
“I’ve felt that overwhelming thing that you’re part of the cycle of life. You’ve gone through death and now there’s a birth.”
“I instantly thought, how many Christmases will I have to share with the grandchild? That’s the thing that galvanises you — how many years of life you have left,” Grant quipped.
The Game of Thrones star went on to quip that he has now shifted his focus to the future after the arrival of his grandson.
“A grandchild underlines your own mortality but that’s a good thing because you don’t waste time on stuff. You have a finite amount of time ahead of you,” Richard E. Grant stated.
