Actor-model says sharing political opinions on social media should not change how people perceive her professionally
Television host Veena Malik addressed rumours that she is planning to enter politics, clarifying that she remains focused on her career and has no interest in holding any political office.
“People ask me if I am getting into politics, so I want to say that I am very much happy in my own space,” Malik said, adding, “For the time being, I am not interested in political affairs, nor do I think I will want to be in the future.”
Discussing recent political comments she made on social media, Malik said, “I feel that every person who pays taxes or votes can have their own opinion.” She also clarified that this also does not give an open invitation for people to view you differently.
Further, the host stated that if she expresses her opinions, that should not change how people perceive her professionally. “My fans like me because of my work, but still everyone should be strong in their own opinion. But now is not the time to sway both ways or hesitate when being clear on which party people believe is best suited to rule,” she said.
Malik concluded by emphasising, “We all should be clear on our views.”
The host clarified her stance years after a statement in 2012 in which she expressed interest in entering politics. Speaking to The Express Tribune, she had said, “Whenever there is something wrong going on in society, my blood boils and sometimes I wish to be a part of this system so I can change things.”
On the professional front, Malik’s recent on-screen appearances include the television series Mr Jamshed DP and the Indian film Zindagi 50-50.
