Uber’s Prabhjeet Singh to be OpenAI’s MD in India

OpenAI has appointed Prabhjeet Singh, Uber’s president for India and South Asia, as its managing director for India, marking one of the company’s most significant senior hires in the country as it looks to deepen its presence in one of its top priority markets. Singh will join OpenAI in Sept and report to Kiran Mani, managing director for Asia Pacific, the company confirmed. He will be OpenAI’s most senior leader in India and will be responsible for its performance across consumer growth, enterprise adoption, partnerships, regulatory engagement and operations. The appointment comes at a time when India is emerging as a key market for global AI companies, both because of its large consumer base and the growing interest among businesses, startups, institutions and government bodies in deploying artificial intelligence tools. Singh’s mandate will include building partnerships, supporting India’s wider AI ecosystem and helping more consumers, businesses, institutions and government bodies benefit from AI, OpenAI said.
