Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday called on the international community to coordinate closely to combat transnational security challenges affecting the world.
“The world faces common security challenges, challenges that do not stop at national borders,” the interior minister said while addressing top police officials from around the world at the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS-2026) in the UN General Assembly Hall.
Naqvi was one of the key panellists who spoke on ‘Enhancing International Cooperation to Address Transnational Challenges’ at the summit.
He explained that terrorism, organised crime, cybercrime, drug trafficking, human smuggling, and money laundering were issues that marred peace across the world.
“These threats affect all of us. No country is safe from them, and no country can deal with them alone,” Naqvi asserted.
The minister highlighted that this was why international cooperation was “more important today than ever before”.
He called on the law enforcement agencies of the UN member states to work closely, maintain trust, share information rapidly, and build stronger partnerships to fight crime.
Naqvi noted that since technology was evolving rapidly and criminals were adopting it at the same pace, it was necessary to step up and adopt it immediately to prevent crime.
To align the law enforcement agencies with the rapidly changing technology, he urged the member states to impart skill enhancement training to the police officers so that they can “make greater use of the innovation”.
“This session brings together experienced leaders from every part of the world. Each [one] of you brings valuable knowledge and practical experience. Let us share ideas that have worked,” he stressed, adding that it was worth learning from each other’s successes.
“Let us find new ways to work together.”
The United Nations, he said, provides a unique platform to bring everyone together with one common purpose “to make our countries safer, to protect our people, and to strengthen peace and security around the world.”
