Meryl Streep breaks down Miranda Priestly’s ‘flawed’ side in ‘Devil Wears Prada’

Meryl Streep gushed over her famous character Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada 2, calling it complex and “realistic.”

In a recent chat with Fleur East on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show, the 76-year-old actress explained that Miranda is not just a strict boss, but she also has an understanding side and shared that she likes to play characters that do not fall in the category of good or bad.

The Oscar-winning actress said, “I don’t know. I feel like you get a realistic view. I think when we tend to Marvel-ize the movies now — we got the villains and we got the good guys — and it’s so boring.”

She went on to explain, “And what’s really interesting about life is that some of the heroes are flawed and some of the villains are human and interesting and have their own strengths.”

Meryl concluded, “So that’s what I like about this [film]. It’s messier.”

The original cast of the 2006 fashion movie, including Meryl, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, reunited for the sequel, released on May 1.

New faces have also joined the cast, including Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B. J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom, Lady Gaga, Patrick Brammall, Conrad Ricamora, and Kenneth Branagh.

As per the synopsis, the sequel continues the story of Andy Sachs, played by Anne, and her complicated relationship with Miranda while her magazine faces struggles.
