Matthew McConaughey recalls how Jennifer Lopez’s name helped him escape a border trouble

Matthew McConaughey revealed he once used Jennifer Lopez’s name to facilitate his police search at the US-Mexico border.

The Interstellar star made a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast on Thursday and discussed his top rom-coms.

But he mentioned that his 2001 film The Wedding Planner remains one of his special rom-coms as it helped him get out of a major mess in Mexico.

Looking back at the time he shared, “I pull in one late night crossing the border going way down south. I get pulled over, and it’s one of those pull-overs. They noticed me, and I’m the gringo in the truck… I’m like, ‘Oh jeez. Get the wallet out. Here we go.’

Matthew continued, “It was going down, and then I brought up, ‘Do you guys know Jennifer Lopez? Ever see The Wedding Planner? Yeah, that was me.’ They all went off… we ended up taking pictures together, and they let me go.”

The Oscar-winning actor did not specify when exactly the incident took place.

While The Wedding Planner remains one of his best rom-com Matthew admitted his 2003 film How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days with Kate Hudson, “still pays the best mailbox money” of any film he has ever done.

“I think it’s, probably, my favourite rom-com I’ve done, and a lot of people love that rom-com,” Matthew remarked. “By far. By lengths. When it used to be just DVDs or cable, every March I’d get a big cheque because (of) Valentine’s Day.”

Matthew’s new crime thriller, The Rivals of Amziah King, is all set to release in theaters in the US on Friday.
