Management Buyout Positions LayerOne for PFAS Removal Commercialization

Morten Eikenes takes the helm as chief executive officer to drive advanced material solutions for global water treatment.

LayerOne Materials has appointed Morten Eikenes as chief executive officer following a recent management buyout of the company.

The appointment marks a structural shift for LayerOne as it pivots toward commercial growth and the deployment of advanced material technologies for industrial applications.

The company established its operations on expertise in graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes. While that technical foundation remains, the company plans to place greater emphasis on developing practical solutions for environmental and industrial challenges.

A primary directive for the restructured company is the development of graphene-based solutions for the removal and replacement of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as PFAS or “forever chemicals.”

Through the European GENESIS project, LayerOne reported technology performance that yields higher PFAS uptake rates than conventional activated carbon. The company’s advanced materials also capture short-chain PFAS more effectively than traditional methods.

As chief executive officer, Eikenes will oversee commercial activities, manage strategic partnerships and guide the development of the company’s graphene-based technologies.

LayerOne plans to maintain its investments in advanced materials while scaling operations to help industrial customers meet increasingly stringent environmental and regulatory requirements.
