On February 24, 2013, Lawrence arrived at the 85th Academy Awards in a pale pink, strapless Dior Haute Couture gown designed by Raf Simons, then Dior’s creative director.The dress was deliberately dramatic: a sculptural silhouette with an enormous skirt and train. Why did she actually fall?

Lawrence later explained that the enormous gown was the culprit but she also blamed herself for being distracted. In a 2014 interview with W Magazine, she said she had been thinking about “cakewalk” while waiting to hear the winner. Her stylist had apparently instructed her to “kick, walk, kick, walk” so that she could move the fabric out of her way.She forgot.
