Israel-Gaza war live updates: U.S. officials warn Israel to protect civilians as airstrikes resume in southern Gaza

Top U.S. officials warned Israel to protect civilian lives as it resumed aerial attacks on Gaza, including in the south, where the majority of the Strip’s population is now crowded following Israeli directives to evacuate from the north. “Too many Palestinian civilians have been killed,” Vice President Harris said Saturday. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said he has “personally pushed Israeli leaders to avoid civilian casualties,” which he said is “both a moral responsibility and a strategic imperative.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country is determining “safe areas” for Gazan civilians in coordination with the United States and international organizations. At least 193 people in Gaza have been killed since the fighting resumed, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Telegram.
