Global Groups Align on Plastic Recycling Standards
International collaboration enters third year with new technical agreements on polypropylene and film recycling.
Plastic recycling groups Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) and RecyClass said they have completed a third year of technical cooperation aimed at aligning recyclability guidance for plastic packaging.
In a progress report released May 12, the organizations said they reached agreement on design guidance for natural polypropylene (PP), and on tie layers used in polyethylene film recycling. They also said they aligned on how to define blue tints in polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
APR and RecyClass said they conducted joint testing over the past year and shared results to reduce duplicate work. The groups said technical committees from both organizations reviewed the findings.
The organizations said they plan additional test campaigns over the next year to further develop their Design for Recycling guidelines for a range of packaging formats.
