In reply to Bangladesh’s 413, Pakistan reached 50-0 in 10 overs at tea on day two of the first Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday, with openers Azan Awais and Imam-ul-Haq scoring at a brisk pace.

Imam was unbeaten on 28, while debutant Awais remained at the crease on 18.

Earlier in the day, Mohammad Abbas led the Green Shirts’ fightback with a brilliant five-wicket haul as Bangladesh were bowled out for 413.

Resuming at 301-4, the hosts lost Litton Das for 33 as Abbas struck early to reduce the hosts to 338-5. The experienced pacer then struck again to remove Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 10, further slowing the scoring.

Abbas took his third wicket of the morning session before lunch, dismissing Taijul Islam for 17, leaving Bangladesh at 380-7 at the interval.

Despite wickets falling consistently, Mushfiqur Rahim stood firm with a composed and determined knock, anchoring the innings through the collapse and ensuring Bangladesh reached a competitive position.

After the resumption, Shaheen Afridi removed a well-settled Rahim for 77, with Abbas inflicting further damage by dismissing Ebadot Hossain.

With the score at 384-9, the last pair of Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana added 29 runs to take Bangladesh past the 400-run mark.

Abbas finished with five wickets, while Shaheen picked up three. Hasan Ali and Noman Ali took one wicket each.

For Bangladesh, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 101, while Mominul Haque made 91.

Bangladesh had dominated the opening day after being asked to bat first, finishing at 301-4 in 85 overs.

Shanto scored a commanding 101 off 130 balls, while Mominul added a fluent 91 off 200 deliveries. The pair stitched together a crucial 170-run partnership after early wickets from Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali reduced Bangladesh to 31-2.
