FIFA President Gianni Infantino has reached out to the U.S. President Donald Trump for help after his controversial plan to sell off World Cup rights to private investors collapsed.

The 56-year-old Swiss football administrator is in hot waters as UEFA and several other associations from across the world are demanding for his resignation after making it clear that “World Cup is not for sale.”

A report by the New York Post, quoting sources familiar with the matter, revealed that the 47th POTUS has been ignoring his friend as Infantino has failed to reach the 80-year-old Republican via phone despite multiple tries.

The insiders claimed that the football executive was feeling “isolated” by an avalanche of negative media coverage. It has been revealed that he has now scheduled a call with United States (U.S.) Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss the situation.

This comes after Infantino’s plan to involve private investors and commercialise the World Cup rights collapsed due to sheer resistance from UEFA and other member associations. 

The European associations threatened to boycott the FIFA tournaments, including World Cup, if the world cup sell off plan moved forward, Infantino backed down.

FIFA or White House have not yet reacted to The Post’s report.

This comes at a time when the FIFA president was planning to run for another term as the head of football governing body from 2027 to 2031.

It remains to be seen if his failed controversial plan would have any effect on his chances of leading the global body for football. 

Earlier it was revealed that FIFA officials were planning a mutiny against the president.
