The Delhi government has ended the rule that required businesses to renew their registration every 21 years under the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954, to make it easier to do business, officials said on Friday. The government said this is a major step to simplify business procedures and make them more convenient, removing unnecessary formalities.
The Labour Department has removed the need for mandatory renewal under Section 5 of the Act. Until now, businesses had to renew their registration every 21 years from the date they first registered. Getting rid of this requirement will help traders and make it easier to do business in Delhi, the statement said.
Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra said that ending the mandatory renewal after 21 years will give real relief to traders. With simpler processes, Delhi will become more friendly for entrepreneurs. This decision will make registration a one-time process, so traders won’t have to worry about renewing it again and again, he said.
This move will boost transparency and make it easier to do business in Delhi, helping the trade and service sectors. The registration process under the Act is already fully online. No documents are needed, there is no fee, and the certificate is given right away based on the information provided by the applicant. This online system has been in place since 2009.
