Bob Vila Names Bio-Pro Best Biodegradable Chain Oil
Renewable Lubricants’ Bio-Pro Bar & Chain Oils have been recognized as the top biodegradable choice for chainsaw maintenance by home improvement expert Bob Vila.
Renewable Lubricants’ Bio-Pro Bar & Chain Oils earned the top spot in Bob Vila’s recent selection of the best biodegradable bar and chain oils.
The lubricant is formulated from renewable vegetable oils and specialized additives designed for anti-wear performance and high-pressure protection. The formula features a high level of tackiness to prevent oil fling-off from chains and sprockets, which helps extend the service life of equipment.
Testing indicates the bio-based formula provides twice the bar and chain life compared to traditional petroleum-based lubricants. The oil is also designed to dissolve tree sap and pitch, maintaining cleaner operation for saws in the field.
The Bio-Pro line utilizes proprietary Stabilized HOBS technology. These high oleic base stocks, derived from agricultural resources, offer high oxidative stability and a high viscosity index. This allows the oil to remain effective across a wide range of temperatures, from cold-weather starts to high-heat operation.
Additionally, the products meet EPA Vessel General Permit guidelines for Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants. They exceed acute toxicity requirements set by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and EPA, making them suitable for use in sensitive areas where low toxicity and biodegradability are required.
The zinc-free lubricants are available in several formulations, including SAE 10W30, 15W50 and 20W60, to accommodate various professional forestry and landscaping needs.
