Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who was booted out of his Windsor home Royal Lodge earlier this year, received a surprising peace offering from his brother King Charles.
The monarch has already begun his summer break at Balmoral and he is expected to be joined by up to 30 members of the royal family to stay during the holiday break. The King will be formally welcomed at the castle this week.
As the preparations are underway, it was revealed that the ex-prince was invited to stay at Balmoral. It was supposed to be a chance for family reconciliation, however, Andrew has rejected the offer.
“Andrew feels he’s been abandoned,” a friend told The Sun’s Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson. “He feels like he is no longer part of the family.”
The pal shared that Andrew was “invited” but he has “no great desire to be at Balmoral”.
“He has nothing to gain and would be treated as an outcast,” they explained. “What’s the point, he feels, of going all the way there for a much-needed holiday and being treated as an elephant in the room?”
Previous reports had claimed that Charles had no intention of meeting his shamed brother or even contacting him, especially as the probe into the harrowing allegations intensified.
However, Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie have conducted a wellness check on him and Princess Anne has reportedly been speaking to Andrew on the phone.
It is unclear if the monarch has changed his stance on the matter or if there is another motive behind the olive branch.
