Context Labs Acquires Kinertic in Trafigura Commodity Deal
Context Labs has acquired carbon platform Kinertic from Trafigura to integrate live emissions data into commodity trading.
Context Labs B.V. has acquired software platform Kinertic from commodities trading group Trafigura PTE Ltd. as part of a multi-year agreement to integrate environmental data into global commodity trading operations.
Under the terms of the deal, Context Labs acquired Agora (Europe) Limited, the Trafigura subsidiary that developed and operated Kinertic. Trafigura completed a strategic equity investment in Context Labs and signed a license agreement to deploy the software across its energy and metals trading desks.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The transaction combines Kinertic’s carbon tracking platform with Context Labs’ industrial artificial intelligence infrastructure. The integrated software enables traders to monitor price, volume, shipping logistics and carbon metrics within a single interface.
The deal comes as strict environmental regulations take effect in key markets. The European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism levies costs based on emissions associated with imported goods, while new EU methane regulations require verified emissions data for oil, natural gas and liquefied natural gas entering the bloc.
The combined platform connects supply chain data, operational inputs and third-party certifications to produce auditable emissions metrics. The system is designed to support carbon footprint calculations, risk management and compliance with global environmental reporting standards.
