CIRCOR Unveils Biofuel Upgrade Kits for Marine Pumps

New retrofit kits allow commercial vessel operators to transition to sustainable fuels without replacing existing pump systems.

CIRCOR International Inc. has introduced a new line of biofuel upgrade kits designed to help commercial marine operators adapt existing pump systems for renewable fuel sources.

The kits enable IMO marine pumps to operate with fuels such as fatty acid methyl esters and hydrotreated vegetable oil. The transition aligns with the latest ISO 8217:2024 requirements as the maritime industry faces increasing regulatory pressure to reduce carbon emissions.

By using high-grade, chemical-resistant materials and optimized seals, the retrofit kits address the specific challenges posed by biofuel blends, which can often degrade standard components. The upgrade maintains the original pump’s form and function, requiring no changes to operating temperatures or pressure ranges.

The system is designed to minimize vessel downtime by providing all necessary components in a single package. Beyond compliance with International Maritime Organization directives, the kits are intended to extend the lifespan of existing equipment while reducing long-term maintenance costs.

Operators can integrate the kits into existing IMO marine pumps to ensure compatibility with fuels meeting EN and ASTM standards. The company stated that the identification of equipment via these kits also simplifies the tracking of modifications and the ordering of future spare parts.
