Punjab Braces for New Monsoon Spell from Today – SUCH TV

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert, warning that monsoon rains are expected across much of Punjab starting today.

According to a PDMA Punjab spokesperson, the 11th spell of monsoon rains will continue until September 19.

Rainfall has been forecast for Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, and Sialkot.

Showers are also expected in Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali.

The PDMA cautioned that water levels in streams, drains, and canals around Rawalpindi, Murree, and Galiat may rise between September 18 and 19.

Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabil Javed said that, following directives from the Chief Minister, commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province have been placed on high alert.

He warned that heavy downpours could trigger flooding in major urban drains and canals.

The PDMA further stated that alerts have been issued to the departments of Health, Irrigation, Communication & Works, Local Government, and Livestock to ensure preparedness.

The citizens are requested to take precautionary measures in bad weather conditions and avoid gathering near rivers and having fun, Relief Commissioner Punjab advised.

Stay in safe places in the event of wind and storms and avoid unnecessary travel, Nabil Javed said.

In an emergency situation, contact the PDMA helpline 1129.
