The Pakistani government has decided to give Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Management Committee, an additional three months in his position.
According to media reports, the extension was announced by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC).
The reports indicate that the main responsibility of the Management Committee is to finalise the board of governance (BoG) and hold elections for the PCB chairman as soon as possible.
The committee will also handle the everyday activities of the PCB but will not be able to make important policy decisions or high-level appointments.
It’s pertinent to note that the Management Committee’s extension cannot go beyond three months.
Zaka Ashraf has been leading the PCB Management Committee since July 2023, taking over from Najam Sethi earlier in the year. However, as his current term was nearing its end, allegations of wrongdoing and unconstitutional decisions were made against him by a member of his own committee.
Zulfiqar Malik, a committee member, sent an email to Ashraf and the rest of the committee, raising these allegations, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
