In Pakistan, December 25th is observed as Quaid-e-Azam Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder and first governor-general of the country. Additionally, Christmas is also celebrated on the same day.
As per the public holiday schedule released earlier this year by the Cabinet Division for the year 2023, December 25th, which falls on a Monday, is designated as a nationwide public holiday. This applies to both Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas.
Furthermore, in accordance with the same notification, December 26th will be a holiday specifically designated for the Christian community in Pakistan.
On December 25th, the State Bank of Pakistan also remains closed annually.
The holiday on December 25th in Pakistan is dedicated to honouring the birthday of Quaid-e-Azam.
Special ceremonies are organised nationwide to recognise and appreciate his relentless efforts to achieve independence for the country.
As December 25th falls on a Monday this year, it is anticipated that schools, especially those closed on Saturdays, may have a three-day holiday.
A similar situation may occur for offices with a Saturday closure. This suggests that certain schools and offices in Pakistan, not operating on Saturdays, could be closed for three consecutive days, encompassing Saturday, December 23rd, Sunday, December 24th, and Monday, December 25th.
