Reliance Industrie Chairman Mukesh Ambani also said India was fortunate to have a “visionary leader” like Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday said India was ready to surprise the world in the next few years with what the country can do with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speaking to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at the AI Summit India in Mumbai, Ambani said, “India will be one of biggest intelligence markets. It’s the youth power that exists in India that will drive intelligence and that too for domestic market.”
Speaking on India’s young population, Ambani pointed out that India is an aspirational country. “Our country’s average age is below 35 years. What’s driving our economy is not just new technology, but also aspiration. We as Indians have raw talent. India has become home to the fastest growing industries, we are doing space research, we are going to build chips,” Ambani said adding that it was the raw gene pool that will drive the intelligence market in India.
Ambani also said India was fortunate to have a “visionary leader” like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “As our PM has said that this is a new aspirational India. His leadership in terms of converting India into a premier digital society has been vital,” Ambani said.
‘We Have to Repeat a Jio For AI to Make It Affordable, Accessible’
During his conversation with Huang on India’s AI vision, Ambani spoke about how Jio made data accessible and affordable for all Indians and how a repeat of the same was needed to make AI affordable and available.
“Apart from US and China, India has the best digital connectivity infrastructure today. Jio took India from 158 to Number 1 in 8 years. We are the largest data company in the world. At Jio, we delivered 16 hexabites data this year. In the US, data costs $ 5 per gb at an average, the world average is $ 3.5 per gb. In India, Jio delivers data at 15 cents per gb,” Ambani said adding, “We have to repeat a Jio for intelligence to be affordable and available to common man.”
The Reliance Industries Chairman also appreciated Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg for making AI more accessible by bringing Llama open source. He added that Zuckerberg will go down in the history for doing this.
Reliance-NVIDIA partnership on AI in India
Jensen Huang said Reliance Industries and Nvidia are partnering to build AI infrastructure in India. “This is an excellent opportunity for India to have a large population and a large population of computer engineers. This is such an extraordinary time. I am honoured and privileged to get to partner with you for this,” Huang told Ambani.
“In just one year’s time, by the end of this year, we will have nearly 20 times more compute capacities here in India than just a little over a year ago,” Huang said.
Ambani said he was looking forward to the partnership, adding, “Counting on Nvidia to deliver good quality AI infrastructure just the way Jio did it in telecom.”
