At least 18 people were struck by gunfire during the weekend leaving one dead, according to Chicago police Sunday with no arrests so far in any of the cases, reported ABC7 Chicago.

According to the report, an incident of gunfire took place in the Little Village neighbourhood where a man pulled out his gun during a heated argument and started shooting people. F

Five people sustained injuries in the incident that occurred in the 3500 block of West 30th Street at 3:38am, the police said.

The suspect fled the scene in a white van and still remains at large.

As a result, three women were also injured. No suspect has been arrested yet.

Authorities also noted that a 35-year-old male was also struck by gunfire during a robbery on Saturday night in East Garfield Park on the West Side.

Police said that at around 11:50pm, the man was in the 3400 block of West Huron Street when he was approached by two people who took his belongings and shot him.

So far no arrests have been made in this regard.

Earlier to this robbery, a male and a female were shot in the parking lot of a gas station Saturday at the corner of Ashland Avenue and Van Buren Road on the Near West Side, according to the officials.

The incident occurred at 10:50pm and the Police started an investigation.

Authorities also noted that a person was found dead with apparent gunshot wounds Saturday in Little Village at about 6:45am.

Police said at that time he had gunshot wounds to his head and back, without revealing any other details.

Police also noted that at least five other people have been shot in Chicago so far this weekend.

The mass shooting incidents raised concerns about gun violence which is a prevalent issue in the US. According to the data, firearms outnumber the population in the US, and attempts to address their spread face substantial political resistance.

The United States has already witnessed three mass shootings in the early days of the year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, an NGO defining a mass shooting as an incident resulting in four or more people wounded or killed.

School shootings, in particular, serve as poignant reminders of the political deadlock surrounding gun control. In a tragic incident in Uvalde, Texas in May 2022, a man took the lives of 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school.
