Thailand became the 51st signatory of the Artemis Accords at a ceremony in Bangkok today. Executive Director of Thailand’s Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency Dr. Pakorn Apaphant signed the Artemis Accords on behalf of the Government of Thailand in the presence of U.S. Ambassador Robert Godec and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Supamas Isarabhakdi. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson provided pre-recorded remarks. The United States welcomes Thailand to the Artemis Accords. The United States and Thailand’s enduring alliance is built on a foundation of diplomatic relations that stretches more than 190 years. Our partnership fosters peace and prosperity in both of our countries, and together, we will face the challenges in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond, including outer space. The Artemis Accords were established in 2020 by the United States and seven other countries. They set out a practical set of principles to guide responsible space exploration. Thailand joins the United States and 49 other nations – Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, the Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Poland, the Republic of Korea, Romania, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay – in affirming the Accords’ principles for sustainable civil space activity.
