TikTok to change how it will pay its filter creators | The Express Tribune

TikTok is making changes to its Effect Creator Rewards program with a lower threshold to join, and a new payment structure.

First announced in May, the Effect Creator Rewards program had an estimate budget of $6 million to pay the creators of effects and filters. Prior to its launch, creators were making filters, mini games and more for little to no reward, with a requirement of 500,000 use of filter in videos. The threshold has been lowered to five published filters with at least three of them being used in 1,000 videos.

The program will now also include small creators, as well as other geographic locations like Brazil, Australia, Canada, Finland, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam. There has been no indication when the program will be expanded globally.

Making the announcement in a blog post, TikTok also said it was taking a new approach to payouts. The pay rate will become variable based on “the region where the video was created,” instead of a flate rate for all creators. The unjust payout would mean creators in the US would receive a significant more sum in comparision to those in developing countries.
