Pakistan defeated the United States by 32 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, securing their second consecutive victory in the tournament.
The Group A match was played in Colombo, where the USA won the toss and elected to field first. Pakistan posted 190 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Opening batter Sahibzada Farhan was the standout performer, scoring 73 runs to anchor Pakistan’s innings.
In reply, the USA managed 158 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs, falling short of the target. Pakistan’s victory also avenged their defeat against the USA in 2024.
Pakistan made one change to the playing XI for the match, bringing in Usman Tariq in place of Salman Mirza.
Pakistan Innings
Pakistan got off to a solid start, with Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan adding 54 runs for the opening partnership. Ayub was dismissed for 19 runs, after which captain Salman Ali Agha returned to the pavilion after scoring one run.
Farhan and Babar Azam then stabilised the innings, playing fluent strokes. Farhan completed his half-century before Babar was dismissed for 46 runs off 32 balls. Farhan was later out for 73.
Middle-order batter Shadab Khan contributed a quick 30 runs off 12 balls, helping Pakistan reach a competitive total.
For the USA, Shadley van Schalkwyk claimed four wickets.
Earlier in the tournament, Pakistan defeated the Netherlands by three wickets in a close contest, while the USA had suffered a loss against India.
