Stock Market Live Updates: Sensex Falls 900 Points In Opening Trade, Nifty Nears 23,500

Stock Market Today Live Updates: The Indian equities market saw a gap-down opening on Thursday, amid the concerning global cues due to stretching Iran-US war and rising brent crude oil prices.

Sensex fell 1000 points in the early trade. Earlier it opened at 76,369 against the previous day’s close at 76,863.

Nifty 50 opened at 23,674, falling 0.80 per cent or 192 points against the previous day close at 23,866.

The decline in GIFT Nifty reflects cautious global sentiment and selling pressure from overseas investors. Recent data shows foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have continued to offload Indian equities, adding pressure on market momentum, although domestic institutional investors (DIIs) have partly offset these flows with buying support.

Global cues are also weighing on sentiment. Rising crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions in West Asia have triggered risk-off moves across global markets, which often spill over into Asian equities, including India.

Brent crude oil futures surged sharply to reach closer to $100 per barrel-mark over the continuation of the Iran war and targets of oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The broader market is under pressure due to no signs of de-escalation of the Middle East crisis. In the previous session, Nifty ended 394 points or 1.63 per cent lower at 23,866, while Sensex closed at 76,863, marking a fall of 1,342 points or 1.72 per cent.
