Stock Market Today: Indian equity markets gave up early gains to end on a muted note on Wednesday, as profit booking in select heavyweight stocks erased the momentum from a positive start. The BSE Sensex closed largely flat, while the NSE Nifty settled below the 25,500 mark.

The BSE Sensex closed 50.15 points, or 0.06%, higher at 82,276.07, after hitting an intraday high of 82,957.91 and a low of 82,132.63. The index had opened at 82,530.12 against the previous close of 82,225.92, but failed to hold on to its early momentum through the session.

Gains were led by IT and metal stocks, with HCLTech, Tata Steel, TCS, Infosys and Tech Mahindra among the top contributors. Auto names such as M&M and Maruti also supported the index. However, weakness in heavyweights including Reliance Industries, SBI, Adani Ports, ITC and Bharti Airtel capped the upside, keeping the broader market range-bound despite positive cues earlier in the day.

Benchmark indices saw a gap-up opening on Wednesday after a crash yesterday. Sensex opened 305 points higher or 0.36 per cent at 82,530, while Nifty began trading at 25,512, reflecting a gain of 88 points.

The NSE Nifty 50 also ended marginally higher, gaining 57.85 points, or 0.23%, to close at 25,482.50 on February 25. The index opened at 25,512.60 and touched an intraday high of 25,652.60 before slipping towards a low of 25,428.20, indicating profit booking at higher levels and a lack of strong follow-through buying.

Shares of Waaree Energies Limited and Premier Energies Limited dropped 10 per cent in the opening session after US announced to impose 126% solar duty on India and a few other countries.

Indian stock market followed the global trend after a rebound in the US stock market.

U.S. stocks moved higher on Tuesday, with gains led by Advanced Micro Devices and software companies, as concerns over artificial intelligence disrupting certain sectors began to cool.

The S&P 500 climbed 0.77% to finish at 6,890.07. The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.04%, ending at 22,863.68, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 370.44 points, or 0.76%, to close at 49,174.50.
