Siri Set for Major Upgrade with Google Gemini – SUCH TV

Apple is reportedly planning a major revamp of Siri, which could be powered by Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence model.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone maker has reached a formal agreement with Google to begin testing Gemini inside Siri, marking a significant shift in Apple’s strategy as it seeks to compete with AI leaders like OpenAI and Perplexity.

The highly anticipated Siri revamp, originally expected sooner, has now been pushed to 2026.

Insiders say Apple has struggled to determine whether its own AI models are powerful enough to support a next-generation Siri that can match rival AI assistants.

How Gemini could change Siri

If the testing phase proves successful, Gemini’s technology could be integrated not only into Siri but also into other areas of iPhone software.

Potential applications include Safari web browsing and Spotlight search, a feature built into the iOS Home Screen.

Spotlight, once seen as Apple’s answer to Google Search, gave users quick information about actors, musicians, and TV shows without opening a browser.

With Gemini, however, Siri could go much further — offering fast, AI-generated answers, summaries, and recommendations on virtually any topic.

Beyond web search

According to the report, the upgraded Siri experience will rely on a mix of text, images, videos, and location-based results.

It may also include an AI-powered summarization feature and give users greater control of their devices through voice commands, making Siri feel more like a true AI assistant than the limited voice bot of today.

Apple’s AI challenge
Apple has faced criticism for lagging behind in the AI race, with competitors rapidly pushing out new AI assistants.

By partnering with Google, the company may be signaling a more pragmatic approach — prioritizing user experience over in-house exclusivity.

If Gemini integration goes smoothly, Apple could use the model more widely across iOS, bringing AI-driven improvements to browsing, search, and productivity tools.
