Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs won’t spend four years in jail: Here’s why

Sean “Diddy” Combs will not serve the full 50-month sentence handed down by the court in the wake of Cassie Ventura’s abuse allegations.

On Friday, October 3, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced the disgraced music mogul to four years and two months in federal prison following a nearly two-month trial.

However, Combs, 55, was granted credit for time already served, reducing his remaining prison term to approximately 36 months, i.e. three years, as per People Magazine.

In addition to the prison sentence, the judge also ordered five years of supervised release and imposed a $500,000 fine, which is the maximum allowable under federal law.

For the unversed, the former American rapper has been incarcerated since September 2024, meaning as of October 3, 2025, he has served roughly 13 months.

Moreover, with federal sentencing guidelines allowing for early release based on good behaviour, the controversial record producer might serve even less than the remaining 36 months.

While many on social media were already voicing outrage over what they saw as a lenient sentence of “only” four years for Combs’ heinous crimes, public anger has only intensified upon learning that the 50-month sentence is not in addition to time already served, but includes it

The reality has ignited widespread fury, with some users calling the outcome “absolutely disgraceful” and accusing the justice system of failing the victims once again.

The Bad Boy Records founder was arrested in Brooklyn, New York, in September 2024 on charges related to prostitution and abuse. His federal trial began in May 2025 with jury selection.

In July 2025, the jury found him guilty on two counts of transportation for the purpose of prostitution but acquitted him on more serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking.

While prosecutors pushed for a sentence of over 11 years, Combs’ defense argued for just 14 months, citing time already served.

Ultimately, the judge landed somewhere in the middle, as per TMZ.

The critics still argue that the outcome falls far short of justice given the gravity of the allegations.
