SC takes notice of police raid on PTI chairman’s residence | The Express Tribune

The Supreme Court (SC) took notice on Saturday of the police raid on PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan’s home while he was at the apex court for the hearing on the ECP’s petition against the restoration of the party’s electoral symbol.

The apex court summoned the IG Islamabad to court after it heard of the raid.

Appearing before the three-member bench hearing the case, the IG said that the police were in search of ‘absconding’ people. He said that it was officials of the Kohsar police station who carried out the raid, assuring the court that he would seek full information from them and inform the court.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa told the IG to provide full details to the SC. “Every citizen should be protected,” the CJP stated, further ordering the IG to visit the PTI chairman’s home on a priority basis.

Earlier today, a police team visited the residence of PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan

Upon learning of the incident from Gohar, Barrister Ali Zafar, the other key lawyer of PTI, remarked that it was a difficult time for the party and advised the PTI chairman to take leave from court proceedings.

The PTI chairman informed CJP Isa about the incident and claimed his son and nephew were “tortured”. He added that a computer and documents were taken. Gohar then left the live hearing and reportedly went back home.

However, the federal capital’s top police official said they were unaware that the house belonged to Gohar.

The IG added nothing was taken from the house nor was anything damaged during the police team’s visit. “We will resolve any complaints that Barrister Gohar may have,” said IG Islamabad.

CJP Isa had also directed the additional attorney general to look into the matter and said “What has happened, should not have happened”.
