The Riyadh Metro is a rapid transit system under construction in Saudi Arabia that will cover an area of 109 miles.

The project, set to be one of the largest public transport systems, is part of the Riyadh Public Transport Project (RPTP), Railway Technology reported.

It is an impressive $22 billion railway project that will run across the desert.

The project comprises a metro network, a bus network, and other transport services. The metro will have six lines, 85 stations, and will cover 109 miles.

The city’s ambitious goals include transforming Riyadh into an international business hub and improving its image in front of the world.

Since its start, the project has faced many difficulties, such as harsh weather conditions, the unavailability of materials, and corruption scandals.

Despite these challenges, the project is expected to open next year.

With Saudi Arabia set to host the World Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup, the kingdom is banking on the new metro megaproject to help transform its economy and improve its reputation.

Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman is spearheading the transformation of Saudi Arabia into a globally recognised, sustainable tourist hub. He has also unveiled a series of futuristic plans under Neom project, such as “The Line” linear city.
