Russia strongly criticized the United States and the United Kingdom on Friday for launching military strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, said a release issued by Russian Foreign Ministry Press Service.
The US and UK air forces confirmed late Thursday’s strikes, retaliating against Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea during the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, expressing concern on Telegram, accused Washington and London of “total disregard for international law” and stated that the airstrikes were “another example of the Anglo-Saxons’ perversion of UN Security Council resolutions.”
In a televised briefing, Zakharova emphasized the “direct threat to global peace and security” posed by the Yemen attacks, urging the international community to condemn the actions of the US and Britain.
Russia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations has formally requested an emergency UN Security Council meeting to address the issue, scheduled for later today.
