Royal family issues statement on Princess Anne’s Barbados visit

The British royal family on Tuesday thanked “everyone who welcomed the Princess Royal to Barbados this weekend”.

According to a statement issued by the royal family, Prince Anne  visited Barbados to attend The Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conferences, as well as meet with local people and dignitaries.

It said the Princess Royal has been in Barbados, where she carried out a number of engagements to meet local people and dignitaries.

She attended The Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conferences, of which she is President having taken over from her father in 2011.

The Commonwealth Study Conference was founded in 1956 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, to explore the intersection of business success and community development. The late Duke hoped to create a forum where emerging leaders from diverse backgrounds would come together to examine complex social and economic issues together through immersive experiences and open dialogue.

“Today, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conferences aim to inspire and build a group of rising talent from global business, unions, civil service, civil society, and the not-for-profit sectors. These people are brought together to study a common problem, but with the benefit of immersive case studies and diverse perspectives,” the statement said.

During the visit, The Princess Royal met study groups, attended the Caribbean-Canada Leaders Dialogue, and Report-Back Dialogues. Her Royal Highness also attended a board dinner as well as a Closing Plenary Reception and Dinner, hosted by the Conference.

Whilst in Barbados, the Princess Royal attended a Reception at The British High Commission Bridgetown to celebrate The King’s official birthday. Here, she had the opportunity to meet the President of Barbados, Dame Sandra Mason, and the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley.

At Barbados Military Cemetery, she laid a wreath and attended a 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day Service at Barbados Military Cemetery.

The Cemetary is part of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, which cares for war graves at 23,000 locations in more than 150 countries and territories.

The Princess also celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the Barbados Olympic Association alongside staff members.

Finally, The Princess Royal visited Regional Security System and Barbados Defence Force’s Field Medical Hospital at Paragon Base in Christ Church.
