Real-life ‘Judaai’: Mistress pays boyfriend’s wife INR 1.3 crores for divorcing the man, here’s what happened next

Remember the Bollywood movie ‘Judaai’, in which the wife takes money from her husband’s mistress to trade off the husband? Well, in a strange turn of events, a similar incident has happened in China, which has left people shocked and amused. However, in this particular incident, the mistress not only lost her money but also her boyfriend!
The bizarre love triangle
Meet Han, a Chinese man who is based in Shishi in the Fujian province of China. As per reports, Han (who is only known by his surname) had married his wife Yang in 2013, and the couple have two daughters together. Years later, Han had an affair with Shi, who also became his business partner. And in November 2022, Han welcomed a son with his mistress Shi.
A report by South China Morning Post (SCMP) reveals that the mistress, Shi, later tried to convince Han’s wife Yang to divorce the man. For this, Shi agreed to pay Yang a whopping 2 million yuan, of which she paid 1.2 million yuan (roughly INR 1.3 crores). But Yang not only took the money, but also didn’t leave her husband after over a year!
Frustrated by Yang, Shi initially demanded her money back. However, when the wife refused to return the money to the mistress and also didn’t give a divorce to the man, Shi filed a court case against Yang. In the lawsuit, Shi- the mistress, claimed that she had a “verbal agreement” with Yang (her boyfriend’s wife) about the money for divorcing Han. And since Yang didn’t keep her promise, she should return her money along with the interest amount.
What did the court say

Court's decision on the love triangle

Listening to the lawsuit, the Shishi People’s Court ruled against Shi’s request on February 7, as per the SCMP report. The court stated that Shi’s payment violated the moral standards of society and public order, as it intended to disrupt a legally valid marriage.
It was later also found out that Han and Yang had filed for a divorce and the couple were in a “cooling-off period” (a 30-day period before their legal separation). This too went against Shi, as it meant that the money didn’t meet the legal conditions for being refunded.
Not just this, it was also discovered later that while Han was married to Yang, he spent more than 6 million yuan on his mistress Shi and his wife had no idea about this. And so, since this affair and subsequent expenses happened when he was married, his wife has a legal right to ask for her share of the money from the mistress. Explaining this, a lawyer named Yue Zengchao from Henan Yushun Law Firm, told Henan Broadcasting System, “Any significant assets acquired by a married man during the affair, without his wife’s consent, are considered jointly owned by the couple. The wife has the legal right to demand the return of her share from the third party,” reported SCMP.
This peculiar incident has left people quite amused on social media. One user commented, “The result is truly satisfying. Taking the money and refusing to divorce – this is the perfect way to make her lose both the man and the money!” while another joked, “What kind of man is worth 1.2 million yuan?”
Real life is sometimes truly stranger than fiction, isn’t it?
