The Kaju Barfi has a fascinating origin story. It is believed to trace back to the 16th century and a chef named Bhimrao in the Maratha royal kitchen. Inspired by a Parsi almond sweet called Halwa-e-Farsi, Bhimrao experimented with cashews, inadvertently creating the iconic Kaju Katli that remains a staple at Indian weddings today.

The brand itself, Prabhuji Pure Food, carries a heavy lineage in the world of Indian snacks and sweets. It began with Ganga Bishen Agarwal (affectionately known as ‘Haldi’), who opened a small bhujiya shop in Bikaner in 1937, called Haldiram Bhujiawala. In 1958, his grandson, Prabhu Shankar Agarwal, founded Haldiram’s Prabhuji to expand the family legacy.
