King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in Ottawa for their much-anticipated royal tour to Canada just in time to make a powerful statement about the monarchy.
The King is set to kick off the two-day visit with an address the Parliament with the ‘Speech from the Throne’, meanwhile, Camilla will be sending an important message of her own as she supports her husband during the significant visit.
The royals are known to use wardrobe and accessories to send subtle messages to the public about their stance. Kate Middleton is very well known for using this approach and Camilla is also no stranger to the strategy.
According to jewellery experts, the Queen is set to make a big statement with her accessory which will honour the heritage of the British royals in a meaningful way.
“We wouldn’t be surprised if Queen Camilla pays tribute to Canada with her choice of jewellery,” expert James Harris told GB News.
“There are a number of iconic brooches in the late Queen Elizabeth II’s collection that we may see being worn by Queen Camilla.”
Harris noted that if the Camilla choose something from the late Queen’s extensive collection, this could be seen as a “wonderful symbol of carrying on Queen Elizabeth’s deep commitment and dedication to the Commonwealth, which was well documented in her lifetime”.
Camilla’s choice would also have major significance in diplomacy. The 77-year-old has taken up the special role of supporting the monarchy with not just her dedication to the royal duties but also with subtle gestures. She has been a huge support to the King – especially as he underwent treatment for his cancer and continues to do so on a weekly basis.
“Wearing a piece of jewellery as remembrance is a meaningful way to keep loved ones close and honour their memory,” Harris stated.
He speculated that Camilla could opt for the Diamond Maple-Leaf Brooch which was made by Asprey & Co. in the late 1930s and King George VI gifted the Queen Mother the brooch before their royal visit to Canada in 1939.
The piece was also worn by Queen Elizabeth, when she was a princess, during her first visit to Canada in 1951. Moreover, Camilla herself donned the jewel during her first official visit in November 2009.
It remains to be seen how Camilla will choose to honour Canada and The King on his first visit to the country as the monarch.
