The Punjab government has decided to overhaul the administrative system in government colleges. To support this initiative, the Higher Education Department (HED) has proposed granting College Management Councils the authority to approve expenditures of up to Rs10 million.
A summary outlining these changes has been forwarded to the provincial cabinet for approval.
The summary notes that the current College Management Councils have become ineffective.
It also recommends allowing financial and administrative decisions to be made at the local level.
Under the proposed restructuring, the representation within these councils will be expanded, and monitoring and accountability mechanisms for college funds will be strengthened.
According to Higher Education Department authorities said reforms will help resolve the problems of colleges soon.
The new councils will provide better facilities to students and teachers.
