Punjab imposes Section 144 in Rawalpindi ahead of PTI protest


LAHORE – The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi and called in the Rangers.

A notification has been issued by the Punjab Home Department enforcing Section 144. The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in the Rawalpindi Division for two days, banning all political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, protests, and similar activities.

There will also be a ban on carrying and displaying weapons in the Rawalpindi Division, with exceptions made for law enforcement personnel.

The ban will be effective on Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29. Section 144 will be enforced in the districts of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal.

On the recommendation of the district administration, six companies of Rangers will be deployed in Rawalpindi and Attock. The district administration has stated that armed miscreants are suspected to be heading toward Rawalpindi, and Section 144 has been imposed to maintain law and order, as well as to protect lives and property.

A letter has been sent to the federal government requesting the deployment of Rangers.

Earlier, PTI announced holding a protest in Rawalpindi on September 28.
