Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken strict notice of incidents of burning crop residues which are causing air pollution, The Chief Minister directed to impose heavy fines and arrests for violating environmental laws across Punjab. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, a strict operation has been launched across Punjab against those burning crop residues and spreading smoke.
Environmental Protection Department, Agriculture Department along with police in Depalpur, arrested a person Muhammad Yasin for burning crop residues and registered a case against him.
Government officials reached the spot along with the police on information about spreading smog and the fire spread over an area of 5 acres was immediately extinguished.
Action is being taken against spreading smoke under the Punjab Environmental Protection Act 1997 and the Punjab Environmental Protection Act 2023 to prevent smog.
Earlier, the Punjab government has warned those burning crop residues or spreading pollution across Punjab will be arrested immediately. Citizens across Punjab have also been appealed to inform about those spreading pollution and report immediately on helpline 1373.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that we will not tolerate those who play with the lives of the people by spreading smog.
