PESHAWAR: In a shocking development, police on Monday revealed that the pictures of two young girls from Kohistan, including the one who was killed for honour, were doctored and posted on fake social media accounts, The News reported.
According to police, the incidents occurred in different areas of Kolai Palas district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The issue came to light after the girl was allegedly killed by her father and other male family members for honour a few days after her fake pictures went viral on social media.
The police have arrested the father and recovered the weapon.
“The father of the girl will be produced before the court today,” Regional Police Officer of Hazara Muhammad Ijaz Khan, told The News. He added that police were raiding the villages to arrest those who were involved in the decision to kill the girl.
The report further stated that the police were informed about a similar case in another village at some distance after which they decided to rescue that girl.
“The district police officer along with a party traveled for three hours to go to the village and rescued the other girl. She was produced before the magistrate where she said there was no threat to her life after which the court handed her over to the family,” Ijaz said.
The girl was produced before the court on November 24, a day before her wedding, and said that she had no threat from her family. The police then decided to hand her over to her family, however, they were keeping an eye on her.
Besides, he added, police along with other agencies were probing to find out who was behind the fake accounts that led to the killing of the other girl.
One such video scam surfaced in 2013, which later led to the killing of five women allegedly on order by the jirga when the video clip in which they were cheering a dancing boy had gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah has taken notice of the matter.
An official communication said he directed the additional chief secretary of home to take necessary steps for an immediate inquiry into the incident and submit a detailed report to this effect.
The chief minister directed the provincial police chief to take steps to arrest all those involved in the incident. He also ordered the officials concerned to ensure that all necessary measures were taken to provide full protection to the girl who was seen with the slain girl in the video.
