Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday delivered a strong address at the SCO Summit in China, directly calling out India over recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan. He warned that Islamabad will take decisive action against terrorists and their supporters, citing “irrefutable evidence” of foreign involvement in the deadly Jaffar Express hijacking in Balochistan.
Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the “foreign involvement in the Jaffar Express attack” and reaffirmed that “Pakistan condemns all forms of terrorism.”
He described terrorism and extremism as “serious challenges for the entire region,” emphasizing that “the world can no longer accept the narrative of terrorism.”
Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the use of state-sponsored terrorism for political purposes, stressing that Pakistan had “sacrificed not only for itself but for the entire region and the world.”
Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability, the prime minister said, “We will continue working with SCO member countries to promote peace, development, and prosperity.”
He called the SCO “a vital platform for regional cooperation and integration,” reflecting Pakistan’s long-standing dedication to development.
The prime minister emphasized that Pakistan seeks dialogue, not tension, with its neighbors, highlighting the importance of talks to achieve lasting peace in the region.
“All long-standing issues can be addressed through comprehensive dialogue,” he said, underlining Pakistan’s commitment to peace and diplomacy for normalizing regional relations.
He reiterated Pakistan’s demand for immediate end to oppression and bloodshed.
On international issues, Shehbaz Sharif condemned Israel’s unjustified aggression against Iran, calling it “unacceptable”.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for a two-state solution in Gaza as approved by the UN.
He also said that Pakistan wants peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Addressing economic ties, the prime minister called the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) “an important project between Pakistan and China”.
He accentuated sovereignty as a national priority, saying, “Nothing is more important for any country than sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
He also expressed gratitude for the summit’s host, saying, “I am grateful to the Chinese President and the Chinese government for the excellent hosting and arrangements.”
He said China’s success is “a reflection of President Xi Jinping’s visionary leadership” and praised the spirit of cooperation, stating, “We gathered in Tianjin to renew the same spirit that China has put into practice.”
