NEW YORK: Pakistan has called for an immediate ceasefire and return to dialogue to resolve the ongoing Middle East conflict, warning about its severe humanitarian and economic consequences.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad stressed that only diplomacy can prevent further escalation.
Ambassador Ahmad told the Security Council that the consequences of the conflict are affecting the entire region.
He warned that violations of international law threaten global peace and urged all parties to immediately halt military operations.
“We call for immediate and complete cessation of hostilities and return to the dialogue table,” he said.
Pakistan reaffirmed its solidarity with Gulf states, including:
1. Bahrain
2. Kuwait
3. Oman
4. Qatar
5. Saudi Arabia
6. United Arab Emirates
7. Jordan
The ambassador condemned attacks targeting civilians and critical infrastructure in these countries.
Pakistan expressed support for two draft resolutions presented at the Security Council:
A resolution by Bahrain calling for a ceasefire and a proposal by Russia urging restraint, cessation of hostilities and negotiations.
According to Pakistan, both initiatives align with its stance advocating diplomacy and peaceful settlement.
Ambassador Ahmad also highlighted the direct impact of the conflict on Pakistan, including:

He noted that millions of Pakistanis living and working in the Gulf region could face risks if the conflict continues.
Pakistan welcomed mediation efforts by several countries and urged all sides to demonstrate political will and commitment to peace.
The ambassador concluded by calling on the international community to prioritize dialogue, diplomacy and adherence to international humanitarian law to achieve a lasting resolution to the crisis.
