Move taken as safety measure linked to Indian military exercises being conducted near Pakistan’s border

Pakistan has decided to temporarily close its airspace for two days, citing precautionary measures amid Indian military exercises near the frontier.

The closure will remain in effect on October 28 and 29, between 6 am and 9 am. The restriction applies to several flight routes within the Karachi and Lahore Flight Information Regions that connect to Indian airspace.

The Civil Aviation Authority has issued a Notice to Airmen to all airlines and aviation operators, advising them to take necessary precautions and plan alternate flight paths during the restricted hours.

Commercial and cargo flights transiting through affected corridors are expected to experience minor delays or rerouting during the closure period, though normal operations will resume outside the restricted time frame.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Airports Authority has launched the implementation of a digital payment system across all airports in the country, in line with government directives and the State Bank of Pakistan’s financial inclusion drive.

The move aims to promote convenience for passengers, ensure transparent transactions, and support the transition toward a modern financial ecosystem.
