‘No Jeans or T-Shirts’: Another Pakistani University introduces modest Dress Code for students


MIRPUR – Students and staff members of University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir have been restricted from wearing jeans and T-shirts, as the varsity rolled out modest dress code in recent changes.

AJK university issued a circular, directing all students and staff to dress modestly, in accordance with local cultural and religious values. The administration clarified that the intention behind the dress code is not to enforce rigidity but to promote discipline, and respect for religious sentiments.

It linked the dress code with positive image of the institution while allowing flexibility in fostering good morale and safety across its campuses. As per new rules, female students are required to wear Shalwar Qameez along with a dupatta or gown, while male students and staff need to wear casual pant, shirts or Shalwar Qameez.

Under new guidelines, students must avoid tight or see-through clothes, shorts, sleeveless shirts, and T-shirts or dresses featuring provocative language. Also, students are banned from wearing excessive makeup, and jewelry.

It directed students to have modest hairstyles that do not draw undue attention. All members need to adhere strictly to the new rules, or they might face disciplinary action for violating dress code.
