New AI Platform Simplifies Access to EPA Emissions Data

Context Labs launches OpenEPA to transform a decade of greenhouse gas reporting into a searchable and verifiable intelligence layer.

Context Labs launched a public artificial intelligence platform Monday designed to archive and analyze more than a decade of federal environmental data.

The platform, known as OpenEPA, serves as a digital intelligence layer for the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program. While GHGRP data has long been available to the public, the technical complexity of the datasets often required significant expertise to navigate.

OpenEPA uses the company’s proprietary industrial AI to connect millions of data points, including facility locations, operator identities and specific emission sectors. The system allows users to perform plain-language queries to generate structured answers regarding national emissions trends.

Every output from the platform includes a provenance record. This feature provides source traceability and query context, allowing researchers and journalists to verify the underlying EPA data for use in professional citations or regulatory filings.

The current version of the tool focuses on greenhouse gas emissions reported by industrial facilities. Context Labs representatives stated that future updates will expand the platform’s scope to include EPA data on water quality, chemical usage and hazardous waste management.

The platform debuted during the CERAWeek 2026 energy conference. Access is being released in stages to researchers, analysts and the public.
