Market Rises For 4th Day: Sensex Surges 1,508 Points, Nifty Above 23,850; All Sectors Gain – News18

The BSE Sensex on Thursday jumped 1,508.91 points to settle at 78,553.20, while the NSE Nifty rallied 414.45 points to close at 23,851.65.

After starting in the red zone, the domestic equities market sharply recovered and entered deep in the green on the back of a vertical rise in heavyweights like Reliance, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel on the Nifty F&O expiry day. All sectors ended the day with positive gains.

The BSE Sensex on Thursday jumped 1,508.91 points to settle at 78,553.20, while the NSE Nifty rallied 414.45 points to close at 23,851.65, recording the fourth consecutive session of gains.

Among the 30 companies on the Sensex, 28 were in green. Top gainers were Eternal, ICICI Bank, SBI, and Bharti Airtel rising up to 3.99 per cent. However, only Tech Mahindra ended the day in the red falling by 0.39 per cent. Maruti Suzuki India close flat.

Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Investments Ltd, said, “A strong rally in large-cap stocks was observed today, primarily driven by financials, amid expectations of improved margins stemming from changes in savings deposit interest rates. Positive sentiment was further supported by a reversal in FII flows, although the sustainability of this trend remains uncertain.”

Nonetheless, optimism surrounding the domestic market persists, bolstered by the expectation of a favourable outcome from US-India trade negotiations and a relatively minimal disruption from the US-China trade tensions. Additionally, a moderating inflation trajectory towards more comfortable levels is further enhancing market sentiment, he added.

In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi index, Tokyo’s Nikkei 225, Shanghai SSE Composite index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were quoting higher during the day.

US markets ended significantly lower on Wednesday.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.87 per cent $66.42 a barrel.

FIIs on Wednesday extended buying on the second day as they bought equities worth Rs 3,936 crore. However, DIIs extended their selling on the second session as they sold equities worth Rs 2,512 crore on the same day.
