Did you know that wearing clothes with polka dots on New Year’s Day is thought to be lucky?

And as this print is having a renewed resurgence this year, with celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Demi Lovato and more flaunting this style. Lucy Hale also joined the bandwagon and opted to style this fun, industrial revolution pattern.

In the Philippines, wearing polka dots on New Year’s Eve is a cherished superstition symbolising prosperity and wealth. The round dots mimic coins, inviting financial abundance into the coming year. Paired with round fruits or jingling coins in pockets, this fun tradition sets an optimistic tone for fortune.

The 36-year-old styled a vibrant blue polka dot shirt with a pair of high-waisted denims. She added sex appeal by opting to keep the shirt undone till her midriff and tucking it into her jeans. The actor, who is best known for her role in Pretty Little Liars, layered dainty gold chains of varying lengths, which had pops of blue and white in them.

She also wore a ring on each of her fingers and added delicate gold hand chains to both her hands for a maximalist appeal. She also added a few bracelets for good measure, and the actor even wore a pair of dangling gold earrings with pearls and crystals.

Lucy Hale elevated this otherwise simple outfit with her accessories, making it a great look for those who want to wear it for a New Year’s Eve party but don’t want to go OTT.

Today, polka dots are timeless, feminine staples, but one can trace their fashion roots to the mid-19th century, born from the Industrial Revolution’s textile advances. Before sewing machines were invented, handcrafting uniform dots was impossible. In fact, the irregular spots were linked to plague or uncleanliness.

But by the 1840s, the polka dance craze from Bohemia swept Europe and America, inspiring “polka” merchandise. The term “polka dot” was first printed in 1857’s Godey’s Lady’s Book, describing embroidered scarves. By the 1920s, Norma Smallwood’s polka-dot Miss America swimsuit (1926) and Minnie Mouse’s iconic dress (1928) boosted popularity. With celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Prince, and Brian Hyland’s “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” (1960) alluding to the polka dots, the polka dot became iconic.

A Pretty Little Liars reunion is in the works?

Actors Lucy Hale and Ian Harding will soon be sharing the screen in a new holiday movie. This reunion comes more than eight years after Pretty Little Liars ended. The two actors played love interests on all seven seasons of the show, which aired from 2010 to 2017. The former co-stars will star together in the new holiday rom-com The Twelve Dates of Christmas.

The film is directed by David Lipper. The Twelve Dates of Christmas “follows Christina Walker (Hale), a successful shop owner who has devoted her energy to her career at the expense of her dating life. As she finds herself single while watching her younger siblings marry ahead of her, Christina makes a promise to herself: to go on 12 dates in the 12 weeks leading up to Christmas in hopes of finding ‘Mr. Right’. Along the way, she navigates the often complicated and unpredictable world of online dating, discovering unexpected connections, personal growth, and the true meaning of the season,” according to Deadline.
