True beauty isn’t in mirrors but in a heart free of hate. Praise, compassion and attention to goodness bring us back to our true nature — peace, joy and quiet inner beauty

You are beautiful. You don’t have to look in a mirror to know that you are beautiful. Just the fact that you are interested in something of eternal value makes you so beautiful. Your eyes are open to a new dimension. If you have a heart that has no hate for anyone, a heart that wants to help, then you are indescribably beautiful. Rage and hatred can temporarily overshadow your beauty. But that is not who you are.

Now, do not get into guilt or feel that you are not beautiful if you have rage or anger. It is not your nature. It will go away. Even if these experiences come to you, don’t identify them with yourself. Instead of saying ‘Oh, I am always angry’, say ‘Anger stepped in for a while and left’. Your true nature is peace, love, joy, and beauty. It is what you see and pay attention to that manifests in the world.

The mind knows only facts, while the heart amplifies everything. Poetry springs from the heart. Poetry is an exaggeration, and so is beauty. There are no facts in beauty. If you analyse beauty with your mind, it no longer exists. Beauty is the language of the heart. The heart decorates, elaborates, and exaggerates. When you read a poem, sing a song, or describe something beautiful, it comes from the heart. But judgment comes from the head. What comes from the heart is always unique and special. Everything is made special by the heart. But often, we do it the other way around. We deal with negativity from the heart and positivity from the head.

We exaggerate our problems. If there is a mistake, suffering, or misery, we blow it out of proportion. If a few people fall ill in a town, we say, “Everyone in town is sick. Everyone is always sick here.” We exaggerate and eternalise the problem. Many newspapers thrive on this exaggerated negativity. But if something beautiful happens, they scrutinize it for facts. They approach it with their head rather than their heart.

We need to switch it around. When you see a negative quality in someone, analyse it. Why is this person negative? What is behind it? What do they want? Reason it out. Don’t see negativity through the heart because then your heart becomes sore. Analysing negativity brings compassion, and exaggerating goodness brings waves of beauty within. On the other hand, exaggerating negativity invites misery, and analysing beauty destroys it.

We must take a step to make this shift. When you see a beautiful quality in another person, decorate it, exaggerate it, and make it big. Those who exaggerate positive qualities become positive themselves because our body, which is space, gets filled with praise.

You have to invoke the greatness in a person, and that happens through praising. Praising is a divine quality. Don’t think praising is only boosting someone’s ego. Praising brings up the good qualities of a person.

When you are on the path of meditation, when you go deep, what happens is your words gain so much power, and they manifest. If you say, ‘You are so generous’, they become generous because your words have power.

You have heard the phrase, ‘Praise the name of the Lord’. You are asked to do this not because God or the person will become great from your praise. No. In the act of praising, you become beautiful.

Whenever you have felt a sense of great beauty, that is when you have reached your home and been in touch with your Self because you are so beautiful. Whatever beauty you see in the world is a projection, a glimpse of the Self. Meditation helps you see the beauty within and outside.

When you rejoice in beauty, the entire creation rejoices with you. The purpose of this diverse creation is to bring you back to your Self, for you to realise that you are beautiful. And in that bliss, all that you need, all that you desire, will simply come to be.
